“Restoring History” is going to raise money to make improvements at Fort St. Joseph in Niles, Michigan. Niles is called the “City of Four Flags,” as four different nations (England, France, Spain, and the United States) have flown their flags over the area in it’s 300 year history. Fort St. Joseph is an archeological site, with research being conducted by students and faculty from Western Michigan University. In 1913, a Memorial Boulder was placed on the site to commemorate the history of the area. There is also an aged and inaccurate Michigan Historical Marker sign.
The goal for “Restoring History” is to raise $12,000. This will enable the restoration of the Michigan Historical Marker sign. It will also provide for and allow the installation of four (4) new 20-foot flag poles, flags, and illumination for the four flags. The Historical Marker and flag poles would be at the entrance by the Memorial Boulder. The funds that are raised will go to Support the Fort, Inc., a local 501 (c) (3) organization. Support the Fort, Inc., and Morgan will coordinate the work for the project.
